You Can Heal Your Life is a book, website and video study course by Louise L. Hay. I read her book over a year ago and watched her video recently. What I like about Louise Hay is that she is very honest,compassionate, non-judgemental, and encouraging. She does not instruct with any religious ideals or philosophies, but just her own down to earth ways. Although she does have a background in Science of Mind and does teach along the lines of law of attraction.
Louise started what would become her life’s work in New York City in 1970. She attended meetings at the Church of Religious Science and began training in the ministerial program. She became a popular speaker at the church, and soon counseled clients. This work quickly blossomed into a full-time career.
Louise teaches that everything in our lives can be changed by our thought process. I thought I had done this (no pun intended), and had changed my thoughts when I read her book, You Can Heal Your Life. Within one week of starting her book, I received a free trip to PA for a Hunger Conference. What I realized the other day after watching her video, is I had reverted back to my old thought patterns, so my life had reverted back to its old ways. Do you realize how many negative thoughts a day you have? When I started thinking about it, I realized it was many. I always considered myself a positive person and thinker. Many people tell me I am positive. Also, you will hear Louise say, I believe… She does not try to enforce any belief systems on anyone, but tells you in a kind compassionate way, your life will be better if you use her tools.
Her company, Hay House, publishes a great deal of best seller metaphysical books, radio shows, products, events and more. When I see a book published through Hay House I know I can trust the quality, content and author.
Louise will tell you-and I agree-to do what resonates with you or works for you. Use her exercises that work and throw out the rest. If you are told by anyone to do certain ‘self-help’ exercises, think or believe a certain way, do this only if you are drawn to do this. This is not the same as an exercise being difficult to do, as there are several on her video. Some may bring up past pain, that may be difficult to deal with, but necessary to heal. There are many paths to the same goal. We are all individuals and what works for me may not work for you.
Her main point, and I have heard this many times from many people, the most important thing is LOVE, love yourself and others. Ultimately love will heal everything in your life. Have you ever heard, how can someone love you, if you don’t love yourself? Very true! FORGIVENESS is the doorway that leads to love, forgive yourself and forgive others. Louise suggests to look in the mirror everyday and say “I love you”. To say “I approve of myself” 500 times a day, yes I said 500.
The good news is you always have control over your thoughts. You cannot control your neighbor, family, boss, co-worker, friend or even our children; although sometimes we like to think so. No matter where you are at in your life today, you can start changing it for tomorrow.
Turn I WANT into I HAVE or I AM when saying affirmations. Live in the now…present. You can word affirmations to anything in your life and how you feel comfortable saying it. Affirmations change your thought process and send positive energy to the universe. You get what you give out. If you are always thinking I don’t have enough money to pay my bills, my car is not going to last long, my children are out of control, I hate my job, my spouse/partner takes me for granted. Guess what, that’s the way your life will stay. Give thanks daily for what you do have, no matter how much or how little.
- I am willing to change the pattern in my consciousness that is creating this condition. (lack,loneliness,unemployment)
- I am always surrounded by love and my life is full and rich.
- All my changes are easy, comfortable and fun. All is well in my life.
- I choose to live in the now and build a beautiful future.
- I accept a wonderful new job.
- I see myself moving into a beautiful new home.
- I have a wonderful, loving, giving, handsome husband. (mine) 🙂
A little over a week ago my Lexi, golden retriever, became very ill practically overnight. I sat with her day after day watching her quality of life deteriorate. It was time to ‘let her go’. I made the very difficult sad decision to put her to sleep. I really wanted her to leave this earth with dignity, respect and love. I also wanted her cremated. I didn’t have the money to euthanize her, let alone have her cremated. I was so focused on my poor dog, my daughter, my companion, my best friend, that I did not focus totally on the money part. Although that was an issue and I did try various groups for financial assistance. No luck.
In the end, she was put to sleep at my local county shelter, no fee, the same treatment as if I had paid a vet. She went to sleep peacefully in her bed with her favorite toy surrounded by love and family. Her old owner paid for her cremation. There are two kinds of cremation, group or individual (more expensive). Group, you do not get the ashes back. She has an individual cremation tomorrow. I contacted a friend that creates beautiful pet urns. He is giving me one for my Lexi. I can even decide the design and color.
In the end, after a tragic week, I got everything that I wished for and more. I thanked God that day for everything I received and for letting Lexi go peacefully with love. I thank God still for everything I was given. The vet office was only 5 minutes away from the shelter. I asked the universe…God before entering the shelter for this to go smoothly and it did. My beautiful golden went with a smile on her face. 🙂
Note: When you are changing your life, send your wishes or desires out to the universe, don’t try to think how you going to pay for a new car or house. How am I going to move across country? How am I going to help my children? Send your intentions-affirmations-out there, the universe takes care of the how. If you are thinking How, this blocks the result. On the other hand, this does not mean sit back and do nothing. Usually thoughts will ‘come’ to you or people come into your life that will help. Quieting your mind helps receive these thoughts. If your mind has constant chatter, you won’t be able to hear anything.
